The homepage welcome on winak.org, with the illustration I drew for it.

The brief

Wiñak is an association of Kichwa farmers in Archidona, Napo, growing organic cacao and guayusa in traditional chakra forest gardens, and running agrotourism in their communities.

They needed two things: a website that told their story clearly to buyers and partners, and the documentation and day-to-day systems to meet food-safety and organic certification rules.

What I did

01
Designed the website

The whole site, from structure and navigation to the shop, agrotourism and research pages.

02
Drew the illustration

The line drawing of a Kichwa family farming under the sun that welcomes visitors on the homepage.

03
Took the photos

The photography used across the site.

04
Wrote all the copy

Mission, programs and products, turning complex work around sustainability and women's leadership into clear language.

05
Translated everything

Site copy and every certification requirement, Spanish to English and English to Spanish.

06
Ran admin & compliance

Led the documentation and team compliance that secured their HACCP plan, FDA facility registration, CCOF organic and Fair Trade certifications.

Photography

Portraits and field photos of Wiñak's members, used across the site.

Research

Research poster: Whose Sovereignty? Necrocapitalism and Indigenous Resistance in Ecuador, by Aliza Cooperman
Whose Sovereignty? Necrocapitalism and Indigenous Resistance in Ecuador

I worked with Wiñak during a field quarter for my Community Studies major at UC Santa Cruz. While I was there, Ecuador's 2019 national strike, el paro, broke out over the end of fuel subsidies, and what started as my capstone grew into a thesis.

It asks how Indigenous communities use social enterprise to attain community sovereignty, looking at Ecuador's political history and how Wiñak's members hold on to Kichwa identity while growing their business.

I designed this poster to present it, with hand-drawn cacao pods and leaves framing the research.
